Healthy Gums: Getting There

The other side of the coin in dentistry from no cavities is health gums.

I am amazed about how many patients do not know of the health benefits of salt water rinses.

Salt water rinses are very therapeutic for mouth sores and are especially good treatment for healing gingivitis and holding it in check.

A proper mix of water and table salt can be made easily.

Mix enough sat in the water until it tastes like sea water.

Another way to do this is to mix enough salt so that there is a little residue of salt in the cup that doesn’t mix with the water.

The salt water mix should be approximately body temperature.

Sip enough water so that you can cover the teeth and gums.  This would be about 1.5 fluid ounces.

Hold the solution in your mouth, rinse for about a minute, and spit. Then try not to eat or drink for about a half hour so the salt water can work on your gums.

An added feature would be to brush your teeth with the salt water. This also helps reverse gingivitis.

Try and do this once a day or every-other-day.

Remember to use fluoridated toothpaste when you are not brushing with salt water.

We are committed to preventive oral health care and helping you keep your natural teeth your whole life.
